Inside

Switzerland

Ask the average man, woman, child or teenager on the street anywhere on earth about his/her dream travel destination, the answer would most definitely be Switzerland. Easily one of the world’s most appealing destinations, and present on every bucket list, this landlocked country surrounded by Germany, Austria, France and Italy ties a lot of things together – cheese, chocolates, cable cars, dairy, snow and more.
A part of the European Union but retaining the ‘Swiss Franc’ as its currency, Switzerland demonstrates its high-tech prowess as well as quaint traditions. However what endears SUI the most for travellers is the gorgeous scenery of lush green mountains during the summer and the un-ending spread of snow-white Alps.

What's the best time to visit

Switzerland

?

Switzerland likes to tell everybody that anytime is the best time to visit, whether an adventure with snow or lush mountains, train journeys or cable car rides, dip your foot in springs, gulp beer or indulge in chocolate. According to the Conde Nast Traveller, there is also a ‘cheapest’ time to visit SUI. Our recommendation is that, the best time depends on how much time you have – whether you want a breeze through the country or imbibe the landscape, architecture, culture and traditions per sq. inch. The months of January to March are least crowded, and have the most affordable flights from the Middle East. June to August is the busiest and therefore the most expensive time. May and September also buzz with crowds, but would be quieter compared to the peak season. Christmas magic will come alive during November and December. If you are a first-timer to Switzerland and are looking to skim through the surface, we recommend a 3-night plan. However if your objective is to go through the country in detail, then a 9-10-night plan will help in a leisurely exploration.

THE SWISS CHOCOLATE EXPERIENCE

Dive deep into the smooth world of Swiss chocolate. Discover the artistry of technique that creates the world’s most loved indulgent treat that cuts across age groups. There are several museums of chocolate, like the Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg, Zurich. Embark on ‘tasting’ experiences like the Max Chocolatier at Lucerne.

SWISS CUISINE

It’s more than just chocolates. Swiss Food & Wine are also a treat one must try. Travel slow in Switzerland and embark on a discovery of the “Great Sites of Taste” – a network of destinations for authentic cuisines true to local traditions elevate the travel experience. The lakes, rivers, agricultural lands and vineyards combine to give you a taste of Switzerland.

MASTER THE RAPIDS AT INTERLAKEN

Numerous mountain streams and fast-flowing rivers in the Jungfrau region present an open invitation to engage in water-based thrills and adventure. The Bernese Oberland has two white-water rivers for river rafting. Before planning a river rafting holiday in Interlaken, ensure it is planned for the summer months and a recommended ability to swim. Operators normally provide equipment required for the activity.

HIKES AND WALKS

With more than 65,000km of waymarked trails across the country, an avid nature lover can explore virtually every corner of Switzerland. There are high-altitude trails for the daring, river walks or even family trails. While some are up the peaks, others can be done on water, and still others through vineyards. Trail running across mountain edges or from one to the other mountain or even along a glacier also make Switzerland an ‘active’ holiday destination.

TRAIN TOURS

One of Switzerland’s most popular offerings is the unforgettable panoramic landscape views from trains. They are widely known as ‘panorama train routes’, and are arguably the most beautiful in the world. Apart from majestic mountain scenery, these routes pass through idyllic villages, along crystal clear lakes and ice-blue glaciers. You have a choice between different ‘panoramic route’ trains that criss-cross the country combining majestic views with Swiss heritage and culture. Some of the trains one must take in a lifetime include the Glacier Express, Bernnia Express, GoldenPass Express, Gotthard Panorama Express and the Lucerne-Interlaken Express.
