Places to Visit
One of the ‘hottest’ destinations in the world that started off as a small fishing village just 50 years or so, back. The breathtaking scale of modern development has produced a number of skyscrapers and iconic man-made archipelagos.
There is also an astonishing array of rich experiences ranging from the souqs that sell spices and jewellery and exciting Land Rover drives on the desert sands, to Bedouin culture and traditional Arabic meals.
Dubai is also great for some world scale events like the Dubai World Cup (Horse Racing), Dubai Tennis Championship and the Dubai Jazz Festival, all of which falls in the months of February-March. Of course, who can forget what started it all, the Dubai Shopping Festival (December-January).
As the UAE’s Capital city, Abu Dhabi combines modernity with traditional culture and heritage. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Presidential Palace are two of the most visible landmarks, followed by the relatively new Louvre Museum and the Yas Island.
Two things stand out about Sharjah, the third largest of the Emirate states: UNESCO Cultural Capital, and its family-holiday-friendliness.
Along the Aabian gulf, the city-state boasts museums, souks, and cool waterfronts that represent Emirati traditions. While the Central Region is dotted with spectacular desert landscapes and opportunities for outdoor activities, the East Coast is a blend of mountains and serene beaches.
Less than an hour and a half away from the bustling global city of Abu Dhabi, is Al Ain – a mixture of culture, nature and adventure. Some of the things that are worth trying are the UNESCO site of Al Ain Oasis or the Al Jahili Fort. Adventure thrill lovers will certainly take back unforgettable moments while hiking or camping near the Jebel Hafit.
This Emirate located on the east is perhaps the most nature-dramatic thanks to the mountains, calm beaches, and wild beauty. Even as Fujairah is popular for activities like rock climbing, rappelling, and trekking on one side, and paragliding and snorkelling on the other, this is among the least visited places among the GCC. Hence, is a favourite among those loving peace and quietude.
Positioned as the “Nature Emirate”, Ras Al Khaimah is another lesser visited region of the UAE, known for its mountainous landscape and beaches, apart from the desert sands. Evidence of human settlements dating back over 7,000 years makes it a place for archeological and cultural experiences. RAK is also known for the world’s longest zip line at 2.83km, treks, rock climbing and paragliding. Yes, as we mentioned earlier, the UAE has a surprise tucked in, at every corner.
